Dedicated to the memory of Pat

Patricia Ann Newby passed away at home on May 8, 2020, after a 10-month battle with cancer. Pat had a high quality of life until near the end, for which the family is very thankful.

Pat was born April 16, 1938, to Alice and Gustavus Little in Indianapolis, Indiana, and was a Tech High School graduate. She was married to Paul Adams on March 27, 1956, and later they moved to Anderson, Indiana, to work for GM. In the early 60's they had two children, Ron and Anita, and Pat left her job to be a full-time mom while the kids were young. Pat married David Newby on November 5, 1973.

Pat owned Pat Newby's Custom Framing for over 20 years in Anderson, Indiana, and was a prolific artist and art teacher. She was very active in the Anderson Chamber of Commerce, where she received awards, served on the board, and was the first female president of the board. Pat and Dave bought an old industrial building near Anderson College, and as a family project, they and the kids spent two years renovating the building to house Pat’s growing business and additional rental space.
David retired from GM in 1985, and they bought a full-sized RV, eventually selling the business, the building, and their home to become full time RV travelers.  They explored the country including a lengthy RV trip to Northern Alaska with friends. They also cultivated a nation-wide network of friends through their favorite RV park in Queen Valley, Arizona near the beautiful Superstition Mountains. They wintered there for over a decade making trips back to Indiana each year until deciding to live in Queen Valley full time for several years.

They were loved by their Arizona community and church. Pat and Dave enjoyed playing games and having gatherings with their friends, and she also worked part time in the park office. Fishing was one of their passions and played a big part in many of their vacation plans.   They also enjoyed fishing in reservoirs near Queen Valley as well as hiking, ATVing, and driving into the mountains in search of wildlife.

In 2019, Pat and Dave made the difficult decision to move back to Indiana to be close to her kids and grandkids, as they were very isolated from family and medical facilities in the Arizona desert.

While moving into their senior living apartment in Indianapolis in July 2019, Pat was diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer, but she faced her illness with amazing courage, a strong faith in God, and enjoyed her life until close to the end. She never let the thought of her illness keep her down! Recent Covid19 restrictions complicated medical treatment and the ability of family to visit.  With the help of her daughter, son, wonderful caregivers, and great hospice care, it was possible for her to stay with David in their home until the end.

Pat is survived by her husband David Newby, daughter Anita Sale (Mike), son Ron Adams (Becky Troyer), step-daughter Marilyn Newby, step-son Dale Newby (Debbie), grandchildren Claire and Charlie Sale, Rosalie Adams, Michelle Newby, and Valerie Osby (Mike), sister-in-law Rebecca Burke, and brother-in-law Allen Newby (Jean). Pat also has two aunts, Ann Williams (MO) and Jacqueline Barrett (WA).

The Family's hearts go out to Pat's extensive Arizona community, and to all the extended family and friends whose lives she touched!
